ARIZONA ON FIRE !

On the 18th of June a fire started  North East of the town of Cibique, on the Fort Apache Indian Reservation. By nightfall already 100-300 Acres had burned. On the 20th of June a lost hiker started a second blaze near Chediski Peak  (Chediski means White Rock in Apache). By the 23rd of June the two fires had merged, and over 300,000 acres have burned, creating the largest fire in Arizona's history. Most of you already know and have already seen the coverage on the news. Today over 417,000 acres have burned, and many domestic animals have been displaced. Last night on NBC, local news, I saw a Wolfdog Aussie cross that had turned herself in happily to a fire fighter after coming out of the forest.

Like at every disaster, the Red Cross is there to help the people. If you're not a people, or if you are so attatched to your non-human companion that they are truly a part of your family, the Red Cross can't, and won't, help you. Well there are a number of wolfdogs and domestic dogs who's families are in need of temporary shelter. We are asking you for help. We need port-a-pens and temporary enclosures. We need shade, and buckets for water, chain link fencing and pipe, and all the things for temporary living quarters for canines.

These animals are not the only animals in need. Our friend and fellow rescue, Audra Hayes, and Hayes Hideaway are hidden just a stones throw from the fire!  Currently Audra has 20 dogs visiting temporarily, also refugees from the fire. We are all hoping and praying that the fire won't go so far as to force her to evacuate the animals. Audra said that she's having a hard time breathing from all the smoke in the air, and that could be serious. On the positive side, she has had airline crates donated, for all the wolves, a truck on stand by, and a veterinarian willing to help in the event that the fire takes off in the direction of Snowflake.

It appears that for the moment Hayes Hideaway has been spared. Audra has ordered supplies for the smoke  and the stress that the animals have been under. She is also in need of some meat for them (that always perks a wolf up). If anyone has some uneaten venison in their freezer that would be wonderful! Frozen meat makes wonderful summer pupsicles, it gives them something to do while cooling them down.

IT'S JUST THE BEGINNING OF FIRE SEASON. There are still four more months of hot, drought induced dryness, with deadly thunderstorms and stupid human disasters, there are bound to be more fires this season. Hayes Hideaway  absolutely needs a water holding tank   immediately.  Contact Audra or Danya  for further details.

We all want you to know that we appreciate your care and concern for the animals in our care, and that without you so many more animals lives would hang in the balance. Since events are changing so rapidly at this time, it may be better that you contact the rescues directly to find out the best way to donate your time and money. You can call Danya,at Where Wolves Rescue at 623-546-9653, or Audra Hayes at Hayes Hideaway at 928-536-4574. You can email  Danya at pangaya@msn.com and you can email Audra at hayeshideaway@wmonline.com if you don't hear back from either of us in good time, PLEASE call us on the telephone.
